Appendix I: GOD HAS WAYS

Here’s a list of the Scriptures that speak of the Ways of God:

God Teaches Us His Ways

Make me know Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me (Psalms 25:4-5).

He leads the humble in justice, and He teaches the humble His way (Psalms 25:9).

Teach me Your way, O Lord, and lead me in a level path (Psalms 27:11).

Turn away my eyes from looking at vanity, and revive me in Your ways (Psalms 119:37).

Let us go up…that He may teach us concerning His ways and that we may walk in His paths (Isaiah 2:3).

Let us go up…that He may teach us about His ways and that we may walk in His paths (Micah 4:2).

Teacher, we know that You are truthful…teach the way of God in truth (Mark 12:14).

Teacher, we know that You speak and teach…the way of God in truth (Luke 20:21).

We Can “Know” the Ways of God

If I have found favor in Your sight, let me know Your ways that I may know You (Exodus 33:13).

That Your way may be known on the earth, Your salvation among all nations (Psalms 67:2).

Make me know Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths (Psalms 25:4).

They are a people who err in their heart, and they do not know My ways (Psalms 95:10).

Then I said…They do not know the way of the Lord (Jeremiah 5:4).

I will go to the great and will speak to them, for they know the way of the Lord (Jeremiah 5:5).

Yet they seek Me day by day and delight to know My ways (Isaiah 58:2).

They always go astray in their heart, and they did not know My ways (Hebrews 3:10).

We Can “Keep” the Ways of God

That he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord (Genesis 18:19).

To test Israel…whether they will keep the way of the Lord to walk in it (Judges 2:22).

For I have kept the ways of the Lord, and have not acted wickedly (2 Samuel 22:22).

I have kept the ways of the Lord…have not wickedly departed from my God (Psalms 18:21).

Wait for the Lord and keep His way, and He will exalt you to inherit the land (Psalms 37:34).

We Can “Walk” in the Ways of God

You shall keep the commandments of the LORD your God, to walk in His ways (Deuteronomy 8:6).

What does the LORD your God require from you…to walk in all His ways and love Him, and to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul (Deuteronomy 10:12).

For if you are careful…to love the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways (Deuteronomy 11:22).

If you carefully observe…to love the LORD your God, and to walk in His ways always (Deuteronomy 19:9).

You have today declared…and that you would walk in His ways and keep His statutes (Deuteronomy 26:17).

They also do no unrighteousness; they walk in His ways (Psalms 119:3).

How blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in His ways (Psalms 128:1).

The Lord, against whom we have sinned, and in whose ways they were not willing to walk? (Isaiah 42:24)

Thus says the Lord of hosts, “If you will walk in My ways” (Zechariah 3:7).

I will be your God, and you will be My people; and you will walk in all the way… (Jeremiah 7:23).

We Can “Teach” the Ways Of God

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me…restore to me the joy of Your salvation and sustain me with a willing spirit. Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, and sinners will be converted to You (Psalms 51:10-13).

1. Way of Life Develops Us

(All Scripture quotes are from the NASB version)

There once was a water bearer who had the task of carrying water from a stream to his master’s house over a mile away. He carried two jugs of water attached to either end of a pole, which he carried across his shoulders. One pot was perfect but the second one had a crack in its side.

Every day, the water bearer would carry the empty pots to the stream, fill them to the brim, and then carry them home. The cracked pot leaked water steadily as the bearer went on his way, so only half a pot of water was left in the cracked pot by the time the water bearer got to his master’s house.

After a year of leaking water, the cracked pot finally spoke to the water bearer. “I am sorry for leaking water along the way. I have cut your productivity and am so ashamed I have not delivered the full amount of water I was designed to carry.”

The water bearer replied, “Today when we go along the path, I want you to notice the beautiful flowers growing next to the path.”

When they got home, the water bearer said to the cracked pot, “I knew you had a leak and I thought to take advantage of it. Several months ago I planted flower seeds along the path.

“The water you have leaked did not go to waste. It watered the flowers every day. Now they are beautiful and I have been able to pick them to decorate my master’s table. Without your flaw, this would not have been possible.”

Each of us has our own unique flaws. We’re all cracked pots. But it’s the cracks and flaws we have that make each of our lives so very interesting and rewarding. A few cracks do not mean we are broken. It means we were put to the test and did not fall apart.

We want to receive each person for who they are and look for the good in them. There is a lot of good out there. There is a lot of good in you!

What Is Life About?

It is said, “Life is a journey, not a destination.” Scripture adds depth to this phrase by teaching us that we are birthed into life as God’s offspring. We are intended to grow and develop as maturing children. Life is our earthly journey of development.

Humanity began in the heart of God as a desire for offspring who would grow and develop under His fatherly care. To facilitate the process of birthing and developing offspring, God created the natural realm and this earth where we begin our life. He made this natural world and its developmental process for us!

God said He intends for each of us to grow and develop into His image and likeness. In the following pages we  will clarify that offspring are birthed with the potential to become children who respond to the guidance of our heavenly Father. We progressively become what God has intended us to be.
